Saugata Chakraborty's assorted collection of 12 short
stories " They go to sleep" will give you a
taste of every possible genre in 97 pages. A book you definitely want to carry
and read in train while you go for a
vacation this summer.
The stories are unpredictable and beyond ones imagination.
But the author have not forgotten to give a touch of Kolkata in many of his stories.
Each story is unique from the other,
Narration is fast
pace but will not leave you dissatisfied.
The language is difficult
for beginners.
Also the characters and the plot at times got little
confusing and needed to re read to understand.
Even though the book is 97 pages, don't think it's an easy
peasy book , you need to read every line in order to get the plot and its subplot.
The cover of the book, black and white makes you travel down
the memory lane of Kolkata's alley and
very much relevant to the story
collection. The narration provides a touch of
bangaliyana.
The story "whats in a name" will make you smile reading the end, It is about a guy who is looking for a girl he met on train, while sharing mochar chop, but didn't ask her name.
The short "It was time" , will make you dumbfounded , while the chapter Rare will remind you of hobbies like coin collection or even stamp collections.
The showstopper of the book was probably The Short lives of Shazia Sultana. A girl who chatted with men and found happiness in it. These are my few favourite from the lot.
The book contains Glossary for people who wants to learn some new terms which might be difficult to understand.
With minimum words the author have woven captivating short reads though tough at times ,can be relished with a cup cutting chai.
